A Rich History

R. H. Dana Elementary School is named after Richard Henry Dana, who sailed into Dana Point Harbor in the 1830s. Named in honor of Richard Henry Dana, the author of Two Years Before the Mast, the school is closely linked with California ’s exciting history and its rich cultural diversity.

Built in 1966, R. H. Dana Elementary School recently celebrated its 50th Golden Anniversary! RH Dana is located at 24242 La Cresta Avenue, Dana Point, CA 92629, and enjoys a 270 degree view of the Pacific Ocean.  In 2010, we were recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.  Additionally, we were selected as a 2008 California Distinguished School and a Title I Academic Achieving School for 2008, 2009, and 2010.

Science & Technology Academy

Welcome to RH Dana!

Nestled in the community of Dana Point, R. H. Dana Elementary School is in the heart of southern California.  With students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade, RH Dana is a close-knit school where the diverse needs of each and every student is tended to. As a science & technology academy,  we are challenging our students to learn in an inquiry-based environment that encourages them to be curious and wonder about the world.  Students will use science experiments and field experiences to conduct research along with technology to analyze research results. Students have the opportunity to showcase their findings to authentic audiences, including parents and community members. Through this culture of exploration and collaboration, students' curiosity is fostered as they are seeking solutions to everyday problems.
